The 20th annual
Miami Aviation Photographers meet and Miami Airline
Collectibles show (Saturday) will be held January
13-16, 2010 at the Comfort Inn and Suites Hotel and Embassy
Suites Hotel (new location), Miami
International Airport. In celebration of our 20th
anniversary, we will honor digital photography to the
program. The Miami
area is a great place for the spotter as Miami
International Airport, Ft Lauderdale International Airport, Opa Locka Airport (Home of the Legendary Airliners EASTERN
DC-7 Restoration Project), and Tamiami Airport, are all
close together and offer a great variety of aircraft to
photograph. Miami's winter climate is also mild and since
our shows (except Saturday) are usually during the evening, it allows time to
visit many of the points of interest Miami has to offer and
taste the great culinary wonders of Cuban and other tropical
foods.
ABOUT THE
PROGRAM
Collectibles Show (Embassy Suites, Miami Airport)
This is
the grand daddy of our show, the airline collectibles show,
which will be held on Saturday January 16th at the Embassy
Suites Hotel, Miami International. There will be models of
all kinds, postcards, photos, timetables, wings, toys,
slides, magazines, books, and many more items available for
the aviation enthusiast! There will also be prize drawings
tickets for all who walk thru the doors! Bring your family!
Aviation Slides
(the Miami Slide Fest) and Digital Photography Program (photography)
This is
what our past conventions were all about. Slides were the
mainstay of all professional photography until the very
recent digital age. National Geographic magazine was
basically composed of slide images. In aviation, the art of
slide photography began to catch in the 1960s then became
very popular with the spotter. In this meeting, slide
photographers from around the world will once again bring
original slides for trading and selling. Due to
the large demand, we are adding digital photography displays
to this and all future shows. Digital photography is the
mainstay of today's hobby in aviation photography. The
cameras are very sophisticated which allows the taking of
instant professional-level photos. It is somewhat of a
challenge in storing these images as you have to make
numerous backups of your systems, but the images are superb
in quality.
What will
digital photographers display? Here are some ideas to start
with:
1:
Bring a display laptop computer with your best work. Do a
continuous slide show of your best photos. Also have more
photos in a hard drive in case someone needs an image of
something else.
2:
Make some 4x6 and 12x18 prints of your best work. You can
sell them there. Also, make some more 12x18s or larger
poster sized prints and frame them. You can also autograph
the photo enlargement in the frame.
3:
Create some CDs of a few hundred of your favorite shots in
lower resolution (1024x768 or less) and a word file
describing your business, so people can have them as
examples of your work (with business card and contact
information).

Digital Photo Contest
will be displayed
and held on Friday January 15th
all evening during the photographers show. Please submit a
maximum of two 8x10 or 8x12 photos as your entry
to event organizers no later than Friday evening January
15th before 7 PM.
DO NOT
put your name on the front of the photos. Photo contest is

Photo contest participants - Please
bring a high resolution CD of the same photos with you
because some of the prizes will be professional poster-size
enlargements care of Atlantic Graphics.
MODEL CONTEST
The
Model contest
will take place during the Saturday collectibles convention. Participants will
display their models for voting. The models will be assigned
a number. Show participants, vendors, and
outside guests will be allowed to vote. Prizes will be
announced during slide show later that evening at the same
location after dinner. Results and prizes will be
distributed after the slide show.

The
Eastern Airlines Flight 401 Group is planning to attend the
Collectibles Show. Come in and say hello to members of this
special group dedicated to the memory of Eastern Flight 401
of December 29, 1972
